    Clutter
Meh. Day #764 of my clearout and the pile doesn't look at all like it's going down. A guy I know from Ebay, Derek, came a couple of nights back to collect a load of old magazines, and he said the garage "didn't look any different".

    Piss.

I've also had two difficult sessions over the last couple of days, binning old work from the Commodore Format days. I guess after 10 years, my brain still can't let go.

On the plus side, a quote arrived from my (favourite) removals company, and it was some 300 quid less than the first quote I had. Hopefully I can whittle this down to an even 2 grand, which is the figure I had in mind from the start.

I'm wrapping up Ebay parcels today today, then off into the garage to annihilate some boxes and take some furniture apart.

    Faded Limes
In The Green Mile, Paul Edgecombe's older self takes long walks up into the hills every day. It's one of my favourite film sequences, for reasons which escape me. I guess I just like the sense of exploration and freedom it captures; the idea that nobody in the entire world knows where you are at that precise moment.

Well, my mind is finally "doing an Edgecombe". The job that I do is not particularly mentally taxing, so it's nice to have a lot of free thinking time while the hands are busy. Recently, I got to thinking about a project I could tackle in my spare time (and though I'd dearly love to do something on the C64, and will no doubt tinker with the beast when it emerges from the attic, I think the limitations would start to annoy me).

After much thought - and more than a little help from the chaps at the Llamasoft Forum - I've decided to plumb for Blitz Basic and remake some old C64 games. This has several benefits, not least the fact that my old chum Jon Wells is a Blitz user and is always on hand with suggestions and tips. :)

I have a project in mind. I have a vision of how it will look. I also have several ideas for interesting ways to expand the game.

Now all I have to do...

    Good Omens
I'm neither a Pratchett fan, nor one who traditionally believes in such a thing as an omen. However, I'm making an exception.

Tonight at work, I was offloading a palette, and the printers had used some offcuts to provide a protective barrier between the layers of boxes. These offcuts can be anything, and are usually un-cropped versions of what's in the boxes. Tonight they were offcuts of travel brochures. I lift out a box, and a map of Canada is staring back at me.

    The West Coast.

    Vancouver Island.

Given the fact that Peg posted my VISA application yesterday, I'm taking that as a pretty fucking huge omen indeedy.

    :)
